Global Fire Safety and External Wall Cladding
We all remember the pictures of the devastating fire in Grenfell tower in the middle of London only a few years ago. Robert Hecek, LFAPI CPV LREA MAICD WRV, Chair of the Australian Property Institute Valuers and Founding member of the I.F.S.S. – International Fire Safety Standards Coalition takes this catastrophe as an example to show the importance of building materials used for cladding or insulation of buildings. He reports on the common principles for fire protection the I.F.S.S. has developed. Changes in legislation and building standards have to be established as well as an Global Fire incident reporting system. We will also address the question: Who pays for the costs of refurbishment and fire protection?
In view of an increasingly international property market, global standards are of utmost importance. The issue is on the global agenda, as the UN has recently adopted the Common principles by I.F.S.S. (IFSS-CP).
