The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors - RICS - was founded in 1868 in the United Kingdom and was awarded the Royal Charter in 1881. Today, RICS is the world's leading professional association for real estate professionals, representing over 100,000 qualified members in 146 countries around the globe. RICS Germany, founded in 1993 in Frankfurt am Main, occupies a prominent position amongst the 18 affiliated national real estate associations in Continental Europe. Of its 2,500 members, 1,000 have earned qualification as Chartered Surveyor. They include many of the outstanding minds in the German real estate industry. The tasks of RICS Germany include education and training, the promotion of the profession, and maintaining professional and ethical standards.
The renewed cooperation agreement signed in October 2012 between RICS London/Germany and HypZert GmbH/ Verband deutscher Pfandbriefbanken e.V. (vdp) has the goal of further raising valuation standards in the real estate industry. Among other things, the agreement provides for mutual membership in both the HypZert Steering Committee and the Professional Group Valuation of RICS Germany. In addition, joint studies are to be undertaken and a (junior) exchange programme established, along with further advanced training schemes. On the regional level, joint RICS/HypZert events are planned.
